Connection: the rooms and the next step
Attention without a next step is a nice moment you paid for.
Connection is the last stage for a reason. Attempted before credibility, it is noise with a budget. Built on top of it, it is the point where trust starts to compound and the work gets cheaper each time.
Two things decide whether connection converts. First, are you in front of the rooms that actually decide your next level, rather than the rooms that are easiest to enter. Second, is there an obvious, immediate next step when someone wants to move: book, buy, brief, join, or reply.
Co-creation belongs here too. Communities built with belong. Communities built for do not last. That means shared authorship, shared credit and, where money is involved, shared money.
The measure is not reach. It is whether the relationship continues after the launch, who owns it internally, and whether it makes the next activation easier.
Communities built with belong. Communities built for do not last.
Do this
Map your rooms and your next step.
- 1List the five rooms, people or platforms that decide your next level.
- 2For each, write the one thing you would need to be credible in it.
- 3Write, in one sentence, what happens when someone wants to work with you today. If it is unclear, fix that before anything else.
Checkpoint. If nothing continues after the campaign ends, you bought attention rather than building connection.
